The Tarkanian Classic kicked off yesterday afternoon featuring some of the biggest high school basketball programs in the country. Only two years in, the Tarkanian basketball tournament is already an elite competition with the nation’s best battling for the trophy.
Hosted at Bishop Gorman High School in Las Vegas, the Gaels, reining NIAA Division I champions and 23rd in the DigitalSports National Basketball Rankings, look to use their home-court advantage to take home the prize.
In its first year, the Tarkanian Classic went to Mater Dei, who rank 3rd nationally. So far, the Monarchs are as good as ever at 5-0 this season, looking to repeat on last year’s performance.
Other elite teams playing in the tournament include 2nd ranked Findlay Prep, 5th Prime Prep, and 16th La Lumiere.
Opening tipoff is at 5:00p this afternoon when Bishop Gorman face off from Lynwood from California. Mater Dei plays at 6:30p against Foothills Christian, followed by Findlay Prep vs Atlanta Sports Academy at 8:00p.
Games conclude on Sunday, December 22, so fans have a long weekend full of basketball.
